When I went looking for a pocket pistol I was looking at small S&W J frames, but they did not conceal as well as I liked. I also looked at some Keltec P3ATs, but did not like their fit and finish. I also looked at several other types and makes, but found none to my liking.

Then I found the Ruger LCP on line and it seemed like an answer to what I had been looking for. Since I am a Ruger Mini 14 armorer; I thought I would give it a try. When it finally came in, I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this little pistol. I purchased an Uncle Mike's pocket holster to use with the LCP, it made the gun disappear in my pocket. I can carry this gun all day with no problem. I carry my LCP daily as a back up to my SP101 or as a primary when my attire won't permit the SP101 to be used.

You may hear people say that the .380 is not a good defensive round, but as a firearms instructor I feel shot placement is more important. There are several sites where you can research ammo ballistics; so I will not get into it here. Sure, a .45 ACP pistol with extra magazines would be preferable in a self-defense situation, but that is not always feasible to carry. If you have carried for a while you know the hassles of trying to conceal a larger type handgun, and probably have opted not to carry on occasion due to type of attire. The number 1 rule in a gunfight is bring a gun. If a gun conceals well regardless of attire it will be more likely to be carried.

I would and have recommended the LCP to anyone looking for an easily concealed pistol.

I was carrying Federal hydra-shocks but due to limited penetration of hollow points in this caliber; I switched to PMC full metal jacket ball ammo for adequate penetration thru barriers such as winter clothing and auto doors etc. Shot placement is the deciding factor afterall.
My personal LCP has been reliable after the recall improvement and I got it back in 7 days from Prescott arizona to the East coast!
I highly recommend the recall return if you have not sent your 370 series gun back; On the affected pistols the hammer will go to half cock if you short stroke the trigger on any shot after the first; This can be detrimental in an emergency situation! On the new hammer design this wont happen as you must release the trigger all the way for trigger to reset to engage the firing mechanism--Vast improvement and a necessary one!
Another plus is you will get the plastic magazine catch replaced with a metal one which wont be chewed up by your metal magazine slot!...

The first time I shot my LCP it kicked like a little mule, especially one-handed, left or right. Now, after about 2 thousand rounds, my hands have toughened up and it's actually fun to shoot and is surprisingly accurate. One problem: I unkowingly got the smaller inner recoil spring on backwards and started having intermittent jamming problems. Called Ruger tech service and they said to always be sure that he large end of the inner (smallest) spring is facing foward (same direction as the muzzle) and it'll work properly. I think there's something in the manual about that, but I didn't read it careful enough That solved the problem.

My 3 star rating is of the LCP, not this site or the topic. I have the LCP and it is very reliable and extremely easy to conceal and carry. The trigger pull is very heavy and I wouldn't trust it to shoot accurately if not for the Crimson Trace lasergrip I got for it. This helps me steady the shots tremendously. This gun hurts my fingers when shooting because of the heavy trigger and small trigger guard, but if ever needed for the reason to carry, all those nusiance inconveniences don't carry any weight at all. I'm glad I have it on at all times (where legal) and it has very little chance of being spotted unless I want it to be. Again, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of the laser with this gun. The lasergrip makes this gun very accurate in "under duress" style shooting.

I am also a big fan of the LCP. When you just need to run to the store or just want convenience just drop it in an appropriate pocket holster and go. And they are quite nice to shoot for such a small gun.

I carry exclusively on a daily basis the LCP 380 in a made for it Fobus holster. It is very lightweight and compact you can forget you have it on your side. A 380 JHP will stop anyone. It's where you place the bullets. I'm just not a big fan that bigger and more rounds is always better. I dont believe I'll ever get caught up in a shootout at the OK corral. I own s&w m&p 45, 2- H&k 40 and 45, Sig 226 and 229, s&w 38 special, CK-75. But I still prefer to carry my LCP daily.

Great little gun. I agree that u need to be able to carry a gun to a gun fight. I carry mine always and everywhere. I feel safe and the little gun is very accurate for the size. I have no regrets on the purchase I made.

I'm definitely a pro gun, right to self defense kind of guy... but have a problem with your page.
The left in America don't need one more reason to dump on Christians and Guns, and your website kind of "Prophetises" the unity of the two, which I'd personally not like to give them as fuel. Self protection and our love of the Lord should be kept in seperate rooms in my opinion. They just don't belong together in my opinion. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to post my thoughts and God Bless.

lOOKED AT THE LCP BUT i FOUND THE DAO AND LONG TRIGGER PULL WAS A DETRIMENT. nIT LIGHT IN ITTHE PULLEITHER. MAYBE AFTER IT IS BROKEN IN AND WITH MORE USE i'LL GET USED TO IT BUY FOR MY MONEY, THE BERSA IS A BETTER BUY. A LITTLE LARGER FRAME BUT SA/DA ACTION IS BETTER FOR ME.

I just got my LCP back from Ruger due to the recall. Yes, I admit some have had issues. but when you look at the thousands that Ruger has put out the ratio of good to bad is high on the good side. I also admit Ruger needs to step their QC department. I feel the reason for all the bad press of the bad ones, is a result of all the hype they created. All companies have made faulty guns, from Sig to jennings. The good thing about Ruger is they will stand behind their products and fix it. Glock has had no recalls, but several "upgrades" to correct their problems. So wht is Ruger getting crucified for doing the right thing?

I was excited about the availablily of the new LCP380. Reading the reviews and actually handling the gun at the NRA Convention last year I was instantly hooked and wanting to get my name on the waiting list, but after talking to 2 people who have recently purchased these guns, the triggers broke on both guns with less than one box of ammunition shot through them. Ruger has now put out a mass recall on these guns due to possible faulty materials in the trigger mechanism. I think I will wait on the improved models.

I also just purchased the little LCP. It's amazing that here in the Peoples Repulic of Illinois, where carry is illegal, that gun shops have a long waiting list to puchase these pistols. The LCP is quite uncomfortable to shoot for me, as I have a very tender "web space" between my thumb and index finger on my strong hand, due to a log splitter accident years ago. Anyway, I made up my mind to become more proficient shooting with my weak hand. Doing that, and having to bump the rear of the slide to make it go into battery (the gun is new and tight yet) I got my hand in the way of the slide and got wacked. Needless to say, my first shooting experience with this gun was not pleasant. Because the trigger pull is so long, I determined that for me, the best way is use the tip of the finger for the pull. Didn't shoot too many rounds the first outing so, I'm looking forward to shooting it with a glove on my strong hand and with my weak hand to get some miles on it. I don't think it will ever be a fun gun to shoot but sure dissapears in the pocket with a good pocket holster.
