Gun control doesn't work in Illinois........again

Feb. 15, 2008 The state of Illinois has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the U.S. With a high score from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, it is the poster child for state regulated gun control. Illinois requires a license to purchase a gun, waiting period, no concealed carry, background checks at gun shows, gun registration, gun manufacturer liability, and on and on it goes.

Yet, yesterday a man walked into Northern Illinois University armed with a shotgun and two handguns and killed five people before killing himself. Gun control does not work. Because the ones for whom gun control is intended do not obey laws, leaving only the law abiding defenseless victims. Once again organizations like the Brady Bunch and state legislators have blood on their hands.

A statement by a person in the room where the gunman permitted his atrocity is telling: “Once he settled in and started shooting people, pretty much everyone was quiet,” he said.

Like sheep resigned to slaughter, people had dropped, crawled as far as they could and awaited their fate.

Another statement tells the desperation of being defenseless: “I just thought if he gets up there, this is it — I’m about to die,” Mr. McEnery remembered thinking. “Because I knew if he shot long enough he would find us.”

Now imagine being in the room where you have crawled as far as you can go and the gunman is shooting. You can count the shots........1 2 3.....you feel something wet hit you which turns out to be the blood and brains of another student....4 5 6 7.......you wish to God you had some way of protecting yourself.....8 9 10 11....a student near you slumps over with a hole in his head....12 13 14 15 16 .....you hear someone scream and fall....17 18 19 20....the 20th shot has been the one the gunman has taken his own life with.

I don't know what the particular attitude of any student there was concerning gun control. But I can guarantee one thing. If any one of them had been offered a gun to protect themselves with during this horror, any one of them would have gladly grabbed it and used it. And so would Sarah Brady and Paul Helmke, and any anti gun Illinois politician.....every one of them would have taken a gun under those circumstances and been glad to have it.

But the politicians and the Bradys are never in these pictures of horror. They are about the business of making it nearly impossible for law abiding citizens to defend themselves so more of them can end up dead at the hands of madmen, and rank and file criminals.

I'll just go ahead and say it here. Illinois is a criminal's paradise. And if I were a resident of the state, I would arm myself irrespective of the state's laws. The deplorable actions of insane liberal politicians and the Brady ilk is accountable for too much blood in a society where guns are too available to make them only accessible to criminals.

The homicidal insane now have a way to vent. They can arm themselves, go blow away a bunch of people, and take their own life going out on their own terms. It is no coincidence that in nearly every news account you read the words "the gunman then took his own life." The distorted idea of glory is reaffirmed over and over in the news in these type stories. Heavily armed gunman, a building full of defenseless victims-a homicidal nut's chance for glory.

So, you want to stop these type crimes? Here's how.

When the headlines begin to read "gunman shot by armed citizens" instead of ""gunman takes his own life" is when these type crimes will begin to die off. Because the nuts that commit these atrocities don't get any glory when their body fluids escape them before they shoot themselves. When their body counts can no longer pile up, when they no longer get to shoot long enough to shoot themselves, they will no longer have an outlet for their distorted sense of glory. An armed American populace is what will stop this.

Bradys. Gun control politicians and other lunatics. Gun control is the prevention of law abiding citizens from protecting themselves. It gets people killed in Illinois and it gets people killed everywhere else. What you continue to prove is that your policy victories mean the lives of countless innocent victims who are disarmed.

America, arm yourself before it's your blood or your family's blood that is spilled in the next mass shooting.
