9, 2008, Don't let fear rule It's obvious from this web sight
that I believe in both the right and obligation of U.S. citizens to exercise
their right to self defense and their right to keep and bear arms. But a whole culture has arisen out
of this belief in the U.S. that does not always enhance our lives but can be
a detractor and diminish our quality of life if we do not strike a balance.
Before I began carrying a pistol on a regular basis, I seldom felt afraid to
go about my daily business. But with the time I have spent studying,
shooting, reviewing, carrying firearms, I have come to the conclusion that
much of what is put forth in information form, particularly on the internet
by well intentioned writers could become a basis for fear rather than peace
of mind. Along with the new culture in the
U.S. surrounding concealed carry has come an abundance of training facilities
and systems all benefiting and profiting from this culture. And many
"expert" writers would have us believe that if we do not spend
hundreds or thousands of dollars training to run, jump, drop, fight, and
shoot from a variety of "realistic" shooting scenarios, we are
hence, too irresponsible to carry a gun. And using it to defend ourselves?
Forget it if we haven't had extensive training. Others dispense information on the
basis that every step we take in our daily lives is a dangerous one. And
anything less than full attention to every minutia and less than two guns
with extra magazines is surely going to lead to our untimely and violent
death. The fact is, most of us go about
our business un-bothered and unharmed throughout our lives. Most adults have
been victims of some type of crime, but most have not been recipients of the
violent face to face kind. So, to balance the promoters of
fear and hopelessness for those of us who cannot spend countless hours
training and thousands of dollars on "realism training" the fact
is, most citizens who defend themselves successfully with a gun have not had
much, if any training, and only moderate practice That's not to say that training is
not greatly beneficial. It is. But for those who cannot spend the time or
money for "professional" firearms training, keep in mind that
millions of Americans down through the years have learned about firearms from
experienced family members and friends. And they've done just fine from both
a recreational and self defense standpoint. So if you own a firearm, practice.
Get some help and guidance from someone experienced. And don't feel like a
dangerous or second class citizen because you are unable to get the high end
training that some insist is necessary to responsibly defend yourself with a
firearm. Sep

7, 2008, When it comes down to it..... I love guns, especially handguns
of all kinds. Love shooting all of them. Enjoy taking pictures, reviewing
them. I like the security of having several guns in strategic places around
my house for family protection. But when it comes down to it (and
I hate to sound like a broken record) the one that goes with me when I feel
like I may actually need a gun is my GLOCK 22. With the hurricanes sweeping the
lower U.S., the state of Louisiana, I suppose, is going to evacuate the whole
lower half of the state every time one comes through now. And where do they
go? Straight to Arkansas and Texas. And specifically to Fort Chaffee,
Arkansas which is just about 3 miles from my home. And keep in mind, these
folks are not prisoners. They can come and go as they please. Many of these folks that show up
here are far less than ideal citizens and they have a tendency to run wild
when they get where they're going. Which brings them frequently, in large,
shouting, foul mouthed and sometimes violent groups to a Wal Mart just a few
blocks from my house. Consequently, when it comes down
to me actually feeling a little threatened, the gun that gives the greatest
confidence for self defense gets tucked into the inside the waistband holster
and stays there all day. Going to work, mowing the grass or taking a nap, the
GLOCK is in place and ready. Full size, very comfortable to carry and enough
firepower to take care of any business necessary if self defense becomes an
issue. For many decades the state of
Louisiana has weathered hurricanes. Katrina was the exception, but now things
are different, levees continuing to be improved, readiness better, and all
improving. If Louisiana which is in "hurricane ally" can't weather
the continuous stream of storms that come regularly every year without
evacuating the state and sending their human refuse to Arkansas, I suggest
they empty the state, board it up and shut it down. We have our own crime
problems. We don't need theirs shipped to us every time a storm blows
through. Aug
30, 2008, Now McCain is running a campaign Swinging right for the chin, John
McCain's campaign is now operating like it means for him to win the
presidency. And his choice of a vice presidential running mate, Alaska
Governor Sarah Palin, while risky, may be one of the most savvy political
moves that I have seen in my adult life. Palin didn't just fill the gap for
women, she filled the gap for true conservatives. Mother of 5, one kid in the
war, anti abortion, pro Anwar drilling, lifelong NRA member, and a proven
corruption fighter in her role as mayor and governor. And as a bonus, she's
the woman that Barack Obama did not pick. The "inexperience" card
has already been played by shocked Democrats who tried to soften the blow.
But that card will not trump anything because she is certainly as qualified
to be vice president as Barack Obama is to be president. The main thing that it takes away
from McCain is the credible ability to call Barack Obama "too
inexperienced" to be president. But the move was a calculated one that
obviously was deemed by the McCain campaign to be worth the loss of some
ability to deride Obama's experience. And I concur. It's well worth the trade
off. McCain has truly given America a
worthy ticket to vote for. Come election day, as a Christian, and a gun
owner, don't dare sit this one out. Too much is at stake. Aug
23, 2008, Interesting running mate for Obama Well.....Joe Biden is indeed an
interesting running mate for Barack Obama. He is considered by many to be a
"safe" choice. Wanta bet? It was Biden, who last year said
to a New York Observer interviewer (Speaking about Obama) said: (Obama
is the) "first mainstream African- American (presidential hopeful) who
is articulate and bright and clean." When you combine that with the
"Reverend" Jesse Jackson's comment that he would like to "cut
his (Obama's)____ off", and you have an interesting mix for race relations
shaping up. I'm betting Biden's big,
compulsive, blurting mouth will continue to cause grief for himself and the
Obama campaign as the media scrutiny ramps up to hysterical levels. Biden is
a notorious headline grabber and is not likely to do well being
"controlled" by Obama's campaign managers. So, we'll see how this plays out.
But considering Biden's monstrous ego, big mouth, and arrogance, the campaign
is set to provide some real entertainment between now and November. Aug

17, 2008, Big night for McCain Unless you were on another planet,
out in the desert, or don't own a tv, you probably saw the interviews with
Barack Obama and John McCain with Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in
California. It was a pleasant format in which
Warren asked questions and let the candidates individually answer,
uninterrupted. The differences in their style were very interesting and their
policies, where different, were clearly different. The candidates were alone
with Warren individually without the other present. Consequently, the answers
were thorough and relaxed. Telling about both candidates, but nothing new
about their positions. So, why was it such a big night for McCain? News twinks have racked it up to
McCain being much more capable in these types of settings where he can banter
with an interviewer or an audience as opposed to Obama who is more
comfortable in a timed debate setting or giving speeches. There is an element
of truth to that, but that was not the primary reason for what was a clear
McCain win. The real difference was in
experience, durability and proven service. McCain, war hero, refused release
by the Viet Cong before his fellow soldiers were released, decades of public
service, direct, positive answers to questions of global world view and
foreign policy, and social issues. McCain came off as what he is: A
statesman. A person who can represent America with experience and honor. Obama came off as thoughtful, but
inexperienced without the anecdotal experiences to share that McCain had for
nearly every experience. Answers that straddled many questions, using both
sides of numerous verbal fences. Forced to admit his pro-abortion stance
though like every pro-abortion advocate, he insisted he was not pro-abortion,
but "pro-choice" ad nauseum. His answers were telling about his
lack of experience or conviction on most subjects, and reveal a political
animal at the core of his being. After this, McCain should refuse
any further debates unless they are in this, or town hall format. Otherwise,
we've seen enough. It's time to take sides and get it done. McCain: Proven service and
experience. Obama: A political unknown whose primary intent in life is to get
elected. I'll take the statesman. Aug
14, 2008, Colin Powell proves idiots exist at all levels Colin Powell: Former Chairman of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Former Secretary of State, has served 3 different
presidents.....has just proven that anybody can be an idiot. How? With all the furor swirling around
him about whether he will endorse Barack Obama for president, he made the
following statement: "As I have said for some time, I know both
candidates and I am studying their positions and statements. I have not
decided who I will vote for." An idiot. I don't care what he has done.
He is now an idiot. With Powell's distinguished record
of public service at the highest levels of government, he now joins the ranks
of the "undecideds", i.e. idiots who can't decide between two
candidates that are as far apart as the sun and moon on issues. Exactly what world do
"undecideds" live in that I'm missing? Is there not enough
difference between a war veteran with decades of service in government, a
miles long list of accomplishments, who is essentially pro life, pro second
amendment rights, and vastly experienced at foreign affairs, and a junior
senator who has no identifiable accomplishments, and is the opposite of
everything McCain is? So, in being
"undecided", he has just joined the ranks of idiots who live in a
world where conviction does not exist and people live in a perpetual state of
being blown all over the place by every word that comes from every political
campaign. The only thing that will raise his
level of idiocy will be if he actually endorses Obama. Then we will see what
everybody has always wondered about Powell. What, exactly, is he? Aug
11, 2008, The price of "stupid happiness" As a Christian I am all for having
joy. And personally, while it is fleeting, I like to be happy. But the last
thing I want to be....in fact what I refuse to be is "stupid
happy". What is stupid happy you ask? Stupid happy is when gas prices go
up to $4.00 per gallon and we get all giddy when it goes down to $3.79. Or
when it went up to $3.00 and dropped down to $2.69. Or when it went up to
$2.00 and it went down to $1.79. Or when it......See the pattern? Here's how stupid happy works. The
powers that be (and we know it's all too complicated to describe them all
when it comes to oil prices)do whatever is necessary to prop up and raise
prices on a much needed commodity. There is hand wringing, the stock market
falls, dire predictions are given, and finally people stop using as much and
lo and behold, the price drops. But not to where it was before.
Just enough to make us "happy". They drop to that fine line that
keeps the prices up, but still reaches a point to where we begin to use it
again, and this is where it settles for a while. Then the process starts all
over again. And oil cartels have been
extremely successful at getting prices from the high dollar range a few years
ago to nearly $4.00 per gallon today. And the pattern emerges again, as
everybody is all happy about gas prices dropping this week. But that's stupid happy.
Christians should have joy and peace in the fact that God is our source
regardless of the economy or gas prices. But we should not let one politician
get one good night's sleep until every drop of oil in every location available
is being tapped and we are free of foreign oil sources. And until gas prices
are down to levels that the average American can run their cars and do their
business without breaking the bank. Nothing else should count at this
point. Gas going down to $3.00 a gallon and staying there should infuriate
the American people while politicians sit on their "green" hands
and arrogantly refuse to allow drilling where oil exists. It should not make us "happy"
until high gas prices are permanently a thing of the past. Aug

7, 2008, Democrats taking a well deserved pounding Sorry, insane, socialist,
ridiculous speaker of the house (lower case letters intentional for her)
allowed Congress to shut down, turn out the lights and prevent work on an
energy bill that would help lower fuel costs for the American people. So, she and all her Democratic
buddies blocked Republican efforts to come to some kind of agreement so as to
keep from having to face their inevitable reversal on off shore (and inshore)
drilling. And inevitable it is. They know full well that they are going to
have to face the music for their deplorable positions that have always put
environmental concerns over the concerns for people. They just want to spread
the reversal as thinly as possible so it's not quite as noticeable. Well, shutting down congress to
avoid coming to and voting on an agreement was about as subtle as dropping a
5 gallon bucket of concrete on the hood of the American peoples' cars. And
this sorry bunch of socialists in congress should lose their jobs in
November, and later in mid-term elections. Democrats should have to face
serious consequences for their traitorous actions. The liberal ideology is
complete government control of the American people, and the American people's
complete dependence on the government. What is arrogant snot, Obama's
answer to the energy crisis? "Properly inflate your tires." Thank
you mr. obama. All of us stupid Americans are riding around on under inflated
tires and depleting the oil supply of the world. There is no end to this
creep's arrogance. In November, we're going to see just
how shallow and stupid people in this nation have become. An increase in Democratic seats in
congress and an Obama administration in November just may be an indicator
that America has gone beyond a point of no return. Aug
7, 2008, Anti gun groups give no heed to facts or reality Anti gun groups have got to be the
lowest form of human organizations imaginable when it comes to the truth.
Organizations like the Humane Society and their ridiculous diatribe trying to
prevent concealed carry of handguns in National Parks. You can read their statement at
https://community.hsus.org/campaign/US_2008_parks_poaching/explanation Now how many of you concealed
carry renegades make your way out to the forest to hunt deer and grizzly bear
with your Smith and Wesson snub nose revolver or GLOCK? According to the
Humane Society, allowing lawful concealed carry in our National Parks will
result in an increase in "poaching" and danger to wildlife. Give me
a stinking break. The HS mentions that four grizzly
bears were killed this year by " people carrying loaded weapons in
violation of the existing regulation." What's more irritating than the
outright deception of the HS is the fact that for people to respond
positively to their drivel, they have to depend on complete ignorance and
people's perception that any of those grizzly bears were actually killed with
small handguns. But no, the HS doesn't mention
that to kill a 1000+ lb animal takes way more than a gun small enough to
conceal for self defense, and that the guns carried into the parks to poach
grizzlies were large high powered rifles, not concealable handguns. The Humane Society has the gall to
assert that people who are lawfully armed with concealed weapons will
endanger desert tortoises because armed people will "use them for target
practice." The overall impression the HS
gives is that if people are lawfully armed with handguns for personal
protection, poaching will increase, animals will be used for recreational
target practice, and wildlife overall will become psychotic from all the guns
going off in the woods. This is simply one more group of
gun control twinks who mindlessly hate guns. And no position is too low, no
lie off limits when it comes to keeping people from legally arming
themselves. The Humane Society knows that
nothing stated in their nonsensical poop has anything to do with reality or
facts. It is simply a matter of an ideology that will not be satisfied until
all citizens are disarmed and unprotected. Aug
1, 2008, Christian Gun Owner web sight on solid ground. Well, www.christiangunowner.com is
now one year old. I started the sight with just a handful of visitors
checking it out in the first few months. Keyword strength is not strong in
the search engines because I decided I could not sacrifice quality of content
or writing to prop up my search engine placement. So, while I did what I could with
search terms, I determined it was best to primarily let it grow virally
(person to person) while keeping the writing conversational instead of purely
optimized for search engines. So how does it do monthly now?.
This past month (July), the Christian Gun Owner web sight had 10051 visitors,
who viewed over 25000 pages. What that means is that the plan to keep the
sight conversational, stick to a basic set of principles, and be as
interactive as possible with the visitors to the sight has all paid off. The
sight and visitor volume has grown every month for the last 9 months and I
don't expect it to slow down in the future. More importantly, it has indicated
by both the visitor volume and the positive responses, that there are many
people of principle who are interested in keeping our Christian heritage
strong, and in keeping America a country where the people are served by the
government, not where people are in servitude to the government. So, I just sent in the yearly
renewal for the web sight and will keep on keeping on. Thanks to all the visitors who
have come here for the last year and have been the encouragement needed to be
a voice among many insisting on the right to keep and bear arms. Jul
18, 2008, Political slime gets thicker I have no heroes in the political
realm. Republican, Democrat, independent, not a one in any party or no party.
The entire nasty heard of national politicians is suspect. That's what makes the statements
of socialist Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi about President Bush so
absurd. Pelosi said, "God bless him, bless his heart, president of
the United States -- a total failure, losing all credibility with the
American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject,"
in an interview with CNN's walking corpse, Wolf Blitzer. Has Pelosi just completely lost
her oozing liberal mind? In criticizing the president, does she really not
realize that the current House of Representatives that she currently leads
has disapproval ratings hovering around 75%? Here's what that means as far as
the American people are concerned: If Pelosi and her House of Representatives
were to want to clean dog poop off the bottom of a shoe, they would have to
climb a ladder to do so. The best that the president and
this congress can do is throw tantrums back and forth at each other while
America suffers under huge and sudden rises in fuel and living necessities,
housing markets collapse, and our economy and way of life is seriously
threatened. People better understand that what
politicians respond to is the threat of losing their jobs or not getting
their next ones. That means they respond to potential votes. Every politician
should be under a national threat of losing their jobs if they do not agree
to releasing oil reserves, drilling in every place available to America, and
insisting that oil companies use every resource available to produce oil
under threat of criminally undermining national security. Jul

10, 2008, Whispers tell all The "Reverend" Jesse
Jackson, in a whispered commentary over a "hot microphone" told the
world what he is really like in private. And that is where we really find out
what these public figures are really like on the inside. Jackson said he would like to cut
off the genitalia of Barack Obama because of his references to black people
that Jackson saw as offensive. Put aside Jackson's foul
expression, and the fact that he is a "Reverend" and just go to the
violence of his statement. Jackson has always been a proponent of peace, and
has long been a gun control advocate. Jackson's comment was actually
consistent with his position on gun control because he said "I'd like to
cut his n___s off" , instead of I'd like to shoot them
off. This just confirms what anybody
with eyes and ears have always known about Jackson. He is a power hungry
religious reprobate that does the name "Christian" a grave
disservice with his preacher-like rhetoric but immoral positions on abortion
and gay rights. But hey, when it comes to guns,
Jesse is sticking to his. He has made it clear that if he is going to inflict
violence on someone, it's not going to be with a gun, because he's against
them. He'll just use a knife to castrate
Obama. Jul
10, 2008, Back to shooting Well, up until the first of the
week, I had been doing nothing but working on my house. About 5 years of
unfinished projects had built up and I finished all of them in that 3 weeks.
It made me remember how much I hate physical labor. Anyway, had a chance to go out and
shoot several guns, including my Ruger Alaskan and my Taurus 1911, both with
some of my newly reloaded bullets that I had produced with my new Dillon
reloader. The 230 grain .45 Hornady XTP hollow points worked great. The .44 mags were another story. I
shot a couple and then the cylinder on my revolver wouldn't turn. I worked it
and tugged on it until my friend said, "hold it, there's a bullet
sticking out of the cylinder". Well I looked at the right side of the
gun, and sure enough a bullet was sticking out the front of the cylinder
keeping it from turning. Turned out the bullet under the shock of the other
rounds being fired had just slid right out of the case. In fact 2 of them had
done it. So, I unloaded it and looked at
all the .44 rounds. Turns out there was little to no crimp and the bullets
could just be pushed or pulled out with your fingers. I used the same dies I
had previously used but in the Dillon the combination of the Lee dies kept the
crimp die from completely crimping the bullet. It was because of the depth of
the sizing die that only allowed the crimp die to go down so far. I was using
Lee Dies for .44 spl, that would also make .44 mag. So, I went and bought a Redding
Crimp Die and I'll try this evening to re-crimp all the faulty .44s. If you are planning on reloading
.44 mag or .357 mag, get the dies specifically for those rounds, not the
lighter round dies that can make heavier loads. In other words get .44 mag
dies that can make .44 spl, or .357 dies that can make .38 spl, not the other
way around. I'll re-crimp the bullets and do
some more reloading with the Dillon. Soon I'll be writing a full review on my
experience with the Dillon. Stay tuned. Jun
30, 2008, General Wesley Clark-The selling of a soul "This year, we're facing the
most important election in a generation. As Americans, we must ask ourselves
which candidate will bring about the change our country so desperately needs.
In my opinion, Barack Obama is the only candidate with the judgment to move
our country forward." Ret. Gen. Wesley Clark Enough said to show that formerly
distinguished Army General Wesley Clark has sold his soul for political
celebrity. Clark has found his niche in society in his twilight years by
forsaking everything he once stood for as a highly decorated army general in
what was once an honorable career. Now he has decided that a
socialist government with a weakened military is in order and has sold his
soul to the Democratic party in what may be the most unreasonable
"retirement career" currently visible in the U.S. And retirement is
really what it is all about. While other prominent military figures fade into
the twilight after their careers end, Clark has found celebrity by the very
fact that his ridiculous turncoat allegiances are so bizarre that they are
newsworthy. So, Clark just joins the ranks of
all the other mindless, traitorous, Obama supporters that don't care what
this political animal will do to our country and it's military forces. They
don't care that individual rights of Americans will be threatened. They don't
care that government programs will expand, costing taxpayers billions more in
taxes. They just continue to follow the pied piper of "change" that
cannot even be identified. There is no reasoning with them.
So, the only way to deal with them is defeat at the voting booth in November.
Because They just don't care. And political mongrel Wesley Clark who no
longer deserves to be called by his former title is just one more of the
sorry crowd. Jun
27, 2008, The Right to Keep and Bear Arms - June 26th A day that will truly go down in
history as the Supreme Court made a ruling on an issue that it has avoided
for over 200 years. The issue of whether the 2nd amendment to the
Constitution granted an inherent right to individual citizens to own a gun.
Yes it does. As expected, a lot of huffing,
puffing, and hot air immediately went up as the usual gun control twinks got
their rear ends handed to them. There were the usual declarations that cities
would pay an enormous price in violent crime, ad nauseum. We all know better
than that from years of not only handgun ownership but concealed carry. But
the gun control crowd's fetish over their cause keeps them spouting nonsense
that has no statistical validity. The fact is, that the ruling
itself will not make a large immediate difference nationwide. The real
consequences will come in lawsuits filed by the NRA and other gun rights
organizations challenging other state and federal laws based on this ruling.
If you are not an NRA member, now is the time to join. The activity we will
see now could make a significant difference in the loosening of gun laws and
individual's freedom to keep and bear arms over the next several years. So, mark June 26, 2008 as a truly
significant and historic day in the life of the U.S. and the constitutional
right of it's citizens to keep and bear arms. Jun
24, 2008, Who cares? If we offend Muslims? It's amazing
to me what constitutes "news". Every time a politician makes a
"slip" with something they say that offends Muslims, every liberal
on earth is up in arms about the "insensitivity" shown to the poor
little innocent bomb throwers. Look, Muslims are enemies of the
U.S. and enemies of Christians in particular. The very essence of their
religion and the rewards gained are contingent on the destruction of
"infidels" (that's all the rest of us) and martyrdom doing it
brings special eternal perks. They can deny it all they want to, but that's
what makes up the very core of their religion. While I deplore Barack Obama, I
see no problem with him moving two Muslim women out of sight of cameras
during one of his public appearances. The only smarter thing would have been
to have them removed from the premises, in case they had a couple pounds of
explosives strapped to them somewhere. No, we need to quit responding to
the overly sensitive twit liberals and Muslims who wring their hands and
whine about insensitivity and racism. America, on every front, has good
reason to use "racial profiling" in dealing with Muslims and the
potential disasters that they represent for this country. Jun
24, 2008, Wringing my hands I wand to shoot so bad I can't
stand it. Haven't been in several weeks which is unusual for me. I've had to
work on about a dozen major projects at my house that have kept me from doing
anything but fixing, painting, roofing, ad nauseum. It makes me remember what
it was like to do manual labor for a living (when I was a painting
contractor). It's made it clear to me that I don't want to go back to doing
it. But, I'll be re-establishing the Right
On Target group in a few weeks. I shut it down for a couple of months to
bring back to the frontal lobe of all those concerned that this is a
Christian small group with purpose beyond just shooting guns. It's a church
group without the church atmosphere. That makes it a great tool to invite
un-churched, non Christian folks to get to know some Christians in a neutral
environment. But it became a "recreational
opportunity" for too many people who looked at it as that only. When you
start a group like this it has to be kept tight and the members dedicated.
Range skills diminish, people get used to showing up at the last minute with
kids, making it a take it or leave it recreational thing that it was not
intended to be. So, in a couple weeks I'll be done
with my house, my group will be up and running again, and some gun reviews
will be hitting the web sight soon. I've had my eye on a Sig Sauer
P220-R for some time now........ Jun
9, 2008, Obama gaffes ignored by "Ozombies" Every time President Bush clears
his throat, liberals are all over any verbal gaffe that can be endlessly
played over the air, to make him look like a buffoon. But let's see, Obama has been in
"57 states". His parents conceived him 4 years after he was born
according to his account of civil rights activities of the 60s. He pleaded
ignorance about one of the most polluted nuclear waist sights in the U.S.,
Hanford, in Eastern Washington. He said he was not familiar with the sight,
even though, unbeknown to him at the time, he has voted on at least one
occasion addressing the costs and technical issues concerning cleaning up the
sight. He claimed his uncle, serving in the U.S. military was with the U.S.
troops that liberated Auschwitz, when it was actually the Red Army that
liberated Auscwhitz. Add to all that his 20 year
association in a traitorous church with a traitorous pastor, and a wife that
has never been proud of her country until now, and we've got the Democratic
nominee for the presidency of the United States. Now when did all this stuff start
to rise to the top? When Obama had to start saying something besides,
"yes we can" and "change". Now we see the real Obama. But that's not what's troubling.
What's troubling is the number of gushing, applauding, pants wetting twinks
that continue to fall over themselves over him. No, another dishonest, stupid
politician is not a big deal. What is a big deal is the number of U.S.
citizens that support him, ignoring where he will obviously take us if
elected. Jun
9, 2008, OK I have gone Dillon....... I broke down over the weekend,
drove to Rogers, Arkansas to Sportsman's Warehouse and bought a Dillon 550B
reloader with 3 caliber conversion shell plates and funnels. No small cost
for a machine with no accessories purchased, well over $500. I'll be giving it a full review
after I've reloaded with it a while, but for now, I just needed to give a
little preliminary report and vent a little. I know that the 500-600 rounds per
hour stated ability of the machine might be accomplished by Superman on his
best day having purchased every accessory available for the thing (which
could double the price of the machine). But what real people can expect from
what I've read, is around 400 per hour. The Dillon was a stinking monster
to put together, set up and get going. Maybe I'm just plain stupid, but it
took me 6 total hours to get set up and running. That's a long time to get
going to make bullets. And in the full review, I'll talk about the cost of
streamlining the set up of the machine when changing calibers. As to finally getting going, my
early report is that it looks promising. Once I got a little rhythm going, I
turned out a hundred .45 ACP in just a few minutes. At this point, from the cost,
setup time and the obvious length of time it will take to change dies and get
set up for different calibers, this machine better perform. If not, it'll get
packed up and returned. I hope it doesn't take as long to take apart as it
took to put it together. I'm thankful that I had already
had considerable experience now reloading on a simpler Lee Turret Press
before tackling this one. If I hadn't, I would probably still be working on
getting it together instead of writing this. .....more to come. Jun
3, 2008, Taurus just keeps on going at my house This blog will be much to the
disdain of gun snobs, but my opinion of Taurus handguns just continues to get
stronger the more I use them. I have owned 4 (that I purchased from stores
with my own money) in the last 24 months (I currently have 2). Every one has
been a dependable, accurate, durable winner. On an almost weekly basis, I
continue to shoot the daylights out of my Taurus PT 1911 and my PT 917 with
the same results. Shoot every time the trigger is pulled, accurate, durable.
My 1911 is at around 1700 rounds now and it just seems to get better each
time out. The PT 917 .9mm gets shot till the barrel almost glows from the
heat. Absolutely dependable. Taurus is turning out some of the
best combat pistols available today. I don't say that because I get paid to,
I say it because I buy, own, and use them. It continues to amaze me, how on
websites and forums, people who have never owned or even shot one, will
disparage the company and the guns. They will go on and on about quality,
trigger pull, accuracy, etc. without a clue of what they are talking about. To date I have owned the 24/7 9mm,
the PT92 9mm, 19ll .45 ACP, and PT 917. These guns have collectively fired
thousands of rounds. No failures, accurate, durable. So, if you want to spend more for
a gun of the same quality, go ahead. But when I am looking for a handgun of
any caliber, in any configuration, you can bet that Taurus will always be a
consideration. And that's because of real world experience. Jun

16, 2008, Allstate: The Sewer of Major Insurance Companies The home that I live in has been
insured by Allstate for decades. It was my parent's home before we moved in
and rented it for 12 years. Then we purchased it 4 years ago and stayed with
Allstate as the insurer. The homeowner's policy was updated in March. Yesterday (5/15/08) I received a
letter from Allstate informing me that my homeowner's policy is being
canceled. The reason? In Allstate's words: "Your pet(s) increase(s) the
potential for liability claims." Now I have pets, but only one is
obviously the issue. My American Pit Bull, Fletcher. 3 dogs, all
spayed/neutered, all healthy, contained by a 6 ft fence with concrete base,
no bite history (with people or dogs). But Allstate just decided because I
own the dog, they could dump me as an insurance customer. Here is why they decided
to break decades of a faithful customer relationship:
It is well known among pet owners
nationwide that Allstate will cancel homeowners insurance for anyone they
find to own a Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Akita, Mastiff, or any other pure bred or
mixed breed dog with certain characteristics that they consider to be
"risky". No options, no suggestions, just a letter after decades of
payments, to get your insurance elsewhere. So, this morning I went to State
Farm where I have my auto insurance. Dog breeds a problem? Nope. So they
wrote the policy. Result? I now have a new home owners policy that insures my
house for more, costs less, and gives me a 17% discount on my auto insurance.
I now love Allstate for helping me
to save money by canceling my homeowners insurance. But hey, as a kid, I
always did love playing in the sewer. May
10, 2008, New Jersey from a home town view David from New Jersey gives his
perspective on his home state: "Mark, You're almost on target in your
assessment of NJ. First, though, NJ isn't an ugly state except when comparing
it to Hawaii. In that case almost every state is ugly. There are a lot of
very scenic areas in NJ and the Jersey shore is a very visited place and not
just for the putrid casinos. NJ has almost no severe weather
because of a buffer created by the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay making
NJ a weather safe place to live. No deadly tornadoes here, or floods, or
extreme heat or cold. We do have humidity and mosquitoes though. A huge amount of people do move
from NJ each year mostly due to the high taxes and car insurance we get to
pay. Our onerous gun laws only add to the exodus. Florida receives more NJ
retirees than from any other state.About the only people wanting to come to
the state are illegal Mexicans. If God would favor me with a call
to leave the state and plant in a place that values liberty I'd be happy to
obey. As it is, though, I haven't yet been so summoned so I take solace in
knowing that being an ambassador for 100 years in NJ is a mere speck of time
compared to eternity in Heaven. Fortunately there's an outdoor
range only 15 minutes from my house. I work in the Dept of Corrections and I
do carry a Glock 27 when off duty." Yep. All states have natural
scenic beauty. Some have more man made issues that cloud that beauty. It's
too bad that the "Garden State" has been severely polluted, dotted
with casinos, and stripped of constitutional rights....earning it the title
ugly. But not a reference to what God put there before the state had it's
way, nor to the brothers like David who make it a better place to live. May
8, 2008, Lock em up No, this time I'm not talking
about criminals. I'm talking about our guns. For some time now, I have been
becoming increasingly concerned about theft of my gun collection as it has
grown. I've had my guns piled in a closet
in a back room where we have our dogs. The dogs have a "dog door"
so they have access to the yard in and out of the house, so anyone getting in
would have to have the nerve to try to go through them. But for anybody who
tried and made it, their reward would be considerable. So, I finally made the leap and
instead of buying another gun, I bought a Sentry Gun Safe for $329 + tax at
Academy Sports. The safe holds 14 rifles but that would max it out
save for a small space with a top shelf for handguns and some straps on the
sides. Getting the thing in my house by
myself was awful, but that was a good indicator that somebody would have an
awful time trying to get it out. Now that it is in my closet, with
all my guns in it (8 long guns, 6 hand guns), I love it. Most of the clutter
of my closet is gone and the rest is neatly organized. And my guns are
protected from theft. The safe model I purchased is the
first in Academy's line of safes that has a heavy steel door that can't be
pried open by a screwdriver or pry bar. It is the minimum I would suggest if
you are purchasing one for a theft deterrent. We spend a lot on our guns, and we
spend lots of time, money and effort protecting our right to use them. A safe
is a reasonable and necessary item to demonstrate that we are responsible in
our possession of them. May
8, 2008, Time for "polite" McCain to step it up. While in general I appreciate John
McCains genteel attitude, it's time to take the gloves off with the two
socialists running for the Democratic nomination. His continual soft attitude
towards them and other liberals had better be hardened up and a full scale
attack mounted before they get the chance to stop shooting each other and get
to mount their attack on him. Because you can bet when given the
chance they will tie him to every rotten corpse of failed policy that he and
every politician he has ever said hello to have been involved in. Bad
sentence structure, but the truth. Both Clinton and Obama have very
high negatives that McCain would do well to start making headlines with right
now. If he waits until the Democratic nominee is decided, he will be going up
against one of two highly polished political machines without the distraction
of tearing at one another. It's going to just be him and one of them
(probably Obama). And Obama's political organization is not only highly
effective, it is highly financed. So, I appreciate McCain being a
gentleman. In politics it is very common to hear people say they "don't
want to hear all the criticism of the candidates towards each other",
they just want to talk about the issues. Bull. People thrive on the chaos of
the battle between the candidates and the negatives about them play heavily
into who gets elected. McCain better wake up to that
reality, and begin to mount an offensive before all he can do is mount a
defense. May

2, 2008, If you have to call 911.....better first pick up your gun. It's sad that it always takes a
tragedy to illustrate what is smart. Such is the case of Brittany Zimmerman
of Madison, Wisconsin. Zimmerman's call for help to the local 911 operator
resulted in the operator hanging up, and ignoring departmental policy by not
calling the number back. Madison Police Chief Noble Wray said there was
evidence in the phone call sufficient for the operator to have dispatched an
officer to the scene. But no help came for Brittany. She was murdered in her
apartment in what was apparently a random crime. And that's the whole fallacy of
gun control and dependence on local government agencies to "keep us
safe". They don't work. In the time that it took for this
21 year old to make the 911 call, she could have drawn a gun, killed her
attacker, and we would have had a much different story in the news. "Public safety" is a
fantasy misnomer that has no bearing in reality when referring to police
protecting citizens. Police presence is necessary in that it retains general
order in our populace. But, when it comes to violent crime perpetrated on
innocent victims, police are usually only able to investigate the scene, not
stop it from happening. This tragic incident is just a
case that should illustrate to gun control freaks and the rest of the normal
world that a firearm in your home, ready for defense is wise. If you don't have a firearm to
protect your home, get one. Don't wait until you have to call 911 to see how
well the public safety system works. Apr
30, 2008, Obama sleaze continues to spiral downward Every time Barack Obama tries to
distance himself from his pastor "Reverend" Wright, it just gets
more disingenuous. In some remarks Obama made about
his relationship with Wright, he prefaced it by saying "all of my adult
life I have tried to bridge the gap between different kinds of people".
So he started out by being untruthful. He has spent his entire adult life
fighting conservative values and individual freedom. Then he (once again) began to try
to distance himself from his pastor of 20 years. He continued to stretch the
limits of credulity by stating that he was not aware of the statements made
by Wright that were played over and over again. So, Wright was his pastor for
20 years, married Obama, baptized his kids, but Obama was "unaware"
of Wright's statements. The one accurate statement that I
have heard Wright make is that Obama trying to distance himself was
"political posturing". Obama denied this, further reducing his
credibility. His distancing from Wright could have been done as a state
senator. It could have been done as a U.S. senator. But it only happened when
Wright became a weight around his neck while running for president that Obama
started denouncing Wright's comments and positions. No, this is a person with close
relationships with people who are nothing short of traitors to the U.S.
People of honesty and reasonable intelligence cannot swallow his ridiculous
assertions that he is now making to try to act like it never happened. What does that say about his
supporters? Apr
26, 2008, How gun control twinks make their point 74 killings in Los Angeles this
year marks a 27 percent increase in the murder rate over last year, reports
the Los Angeles Times. Now, California has some of the
most oppressive gun laws in the country, given one of the highest marks by
the Brady Campaign. In the majority of those murder
statistics are gang slayings and drive by shootings that are generally
contained within specific parts of the city. Why? Because gang members
generally stay within their "territory" and don't obey gun
laws....or any other for that matter. And this is all great for the gun
control lobby. Why? Because when gangs shoot each other in mass numbers, it
allows the gun control twinks to shout their endless mantra of: "too
many guns", and gives them new energy to propose more and more
oppressive gun laws that will further weaken the ability of law abiding
citizens to protect themselves. What this all means is, that in
this environment, when more restrictive gun laws are implemented, gangs who
account for much of big city murders still have the same amount of guns. But
law abiding citizens are further restricted from being able to defend
themselves from muggers, rapists, robbers, serial killers, mass shooters,
etc., who are more evenly distributed throughout society. Consequently, these
type crimes remain constant and elevated in major cities with restrictive gun
laws. Yep. Gun control advocates would
no doubt huff and puff and bluster and be indignant if I told them that inner
city murder was great for their cause. But, I don't have to tell them. They
know it. Crime is allowed to run rampant in
our major inner city communities. Shootings and murders pile up unrestrained.
Nobody removes the root of the problem which is the gangs who keep their guns
no matter the law. And law abiding citizens suffer the most as the most
oppressive gun laws are imposed on them. It's a vicious circle that doesn't
appear to have any end in sight. Apr
24, 2008, Chicago - America's Current #1 Death Trap Want to move somewhere that you
can be reasonably sure that you can be shot and killed, without any legal
means to protect yourself? Just move to Chicago. Walk or drive around enough
of the city and you should be dead from a gunshot wound in just a few days. Last weekend alone, there were 9
people killed in 36 shootings. That's just a simple result of spring weather
in Chicago. It gets pleasant enough outside for criminals to go out and
murder people. And if you want to die from a
gunshot wound, Chicago makes sure you have no legal means to protect
yourself. Concealed carry? No way. You have to go through an act of congress
just to be able to own a gun, much less carry one. OK. So what about pepper spray?
Illinois state law says ok. Chicago? Nope. Can't carry it legally in Chicago.
How about a stun gun? Not that either. About the only thing you can
legally carry with you to protect yourself is your fingernails. And I
wouldn't be surprised to eventually find regulations in the Chicago city code
of ordinances restricting how long you can grow them. Yep, if you want to die a violent
death, Chicago is your place. This city, with it's rank politicians and
ordinances prohibiting law abiding citizens from protecting themselves from
criminals by any means, may result in the coining of a brand new phrase:
"Suicide by city". Apr
19, 2008, What is "too connected"? First, I am not anti-technology.
My wife and I own 3 computers, several cell phone lines, and we both have new
computers from our employers. The non-tech folks at my church actually
believe I am some sort of computer mechanic when I am able to fix simple
emergency problems. But, I know how to operate
technology without becoming attached at the hip with it to the point where I
can't ignore it for a few minutes. I turn off my cell phone during staff
meetings. I leave it in my car during weddings and funerals. I leave it in
another room when I am at home. I am not addicted to my cell phone. But, that is not the case with
multitudes including many who seem to think that simple social grace like
conversation (about something besides what's on their cell phones) is out of
the question. Consequently, going to lunch with multiple people today means
talking in between answering and making calls, taking and answering emails
and obsessively punching at numerous buttons or peering through the
fingerprint smudges while swiping at the screen of a $600 iPhone (the most
overinflated product in the world today). I recently went to lunch with a
group of 10 people and at one point during what should have been an
interactive social activity, 7 of those 10 people were doing something on
their phones. It has come to the point where
Americans are obsessed with the techno gadgets that dwell with them
everywhere they go. Simple social grace and courtesy are going out the window
as when in the middle of a sentence the person you are talking to has to grab
their phone because it just notified them of an email that can't wait until
you finish a remark. If you are reading this rant and
recognize yourself as a techno-junkie, there is a way out. Leave your cell
phone at home for one day to prove to yourself that your world will not come
crashing down without it for one day. If you don't trust yourself give it to
someone who won't give it back to you for 24 hours. Then, make a commitment
to turn it off and don't look at it during any social activity for one week.
Go to a funeral (any funeral) and leave it in your car. By this point, you
should be getting more relaxed, knowing that the cell phone is not the center
of the universe. And then, just make a commitment to practice simple social
grace by not being rude with your phone. It is just as rude to look at your
phone during a conversation as it is to constantly interrupt in a conversation. And who knows. You'll probably
even begin to enjoy the freedom of social activity without the cocaine addict
effect of a technological device that has controlled your life for some time.
