The 2008 Presidential Election

The election has ended and Barrack Obama will be our next president. What that means, we really don't know. He voted "present" so many times in the U.S. senate that it's hard to pin down anything he's done in a U.S. office. He voted right down party lines as an Illinois state senator. But now he is president-elect of the United States. And I think he is smart enough to know that he now has to govern decisively and with his own self preservation in mind.

Poised in the House and Senate are drooling ultra liberal Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and others that are no doubt anticipating a mass of Democratic bills sailing through congress as soon as Obama takes the oath. You won't see the big stuff that this election was based on first out of this congress. You will see things like the abominable Freedom of Choice Act which Obama has promised to sign into law. This would mean a sweeping federal law overriding all state rules and allowing abortion, virtually without restriction, nation-wide. And it would provide for abortions paid for by tax dollars for poor women, because we can't "discriminate" against low income women who want to kill their unborn.

You can look for sweeping firearms bills, particularly the re-emergence of the Clinton Gun Ban, but this time it will be the CGB on steroids. You will find many firearms not included last time prohibited for manufacture and sale, high capacity magazines banned in rifles and handguns. You will see taxes raised on all firearm related items including, most insidiously, ammunition. Because if you can't buy ammo your guns are useless. So, look for taxes piled up on ammo and components and onerous restrictions placed on it's manufacture and sale.

Now, in review, how did a no-name, first term, U.S. senator and former state senator who has accomplished nothing, get into office? The number 1 reason? George W. Bush. Number 2: a suddenly collapsing banking industry. Without those two factors, this liberal do nothing would not have stood a chance on the national stage. John McCain (who ran a ridiculously inept campaign) could not separate himself from the image of George Bush and where the death knoll sounded was with the collapse of many major banks, followed by an 800 billion dollar bailout. John McCain was doomed. George W. McCain was born. And so he carried that stigma until the end. He could not overcome the superstar nature of the young Obama who had a brilliant campaign staff and stayed on subject throughout the campaign.

But all the above only proves how distressingly inattentive a large portion of the U.S. populace is. Not black people. They voted the way they were expected to. Black for black. Not racist, just fact. Over 90% of black voters voted for Obama. That means a multitude of black Christians that ignored Biblical truth, personal convictions, and the welfare of the nation. He's black, so vote for him. Shame.

Not women. Liberal women whose only issue is the wholesale ability to kill the unborn at will voted Obama. Conservative women of conviction, voted for McCain/Palin.

Poor urban dwellers....who else? Of course they voted for Obama who they believe will give them the much wanted government financial support that will come out of the pockets of hard working tax payers.

The "youth vote" we heard so much about turned out to be unremarkable, and the "new voter" factor also unremarkable. Neither had the effect that was anticipated. No, none of these things were unexpected. The end result that stemmed from a specific and large segment of the American population was actually quite predictable. And other than good registered voter turnout, none of what we had been hearing about who was going to put Obama over the top actually happened.

No, here is why Barrack Obama, against all reason, was elected to the highest office in the land, with this country knowing he is pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-high taxes, was pastored 20 years by a preacher whose words were "God damn America", rubbed elbows with domestic terrorists, and whose real economic plan came from his own lips-"spread the wealth around". Here is the reason:

Moderates. These are the people in the political world that swing elections and parties wildly from one direction to another. Moderate is another word for someone who has no conviction, no concern for the country, little knowledge of what is actually going on during the political process. They pay no attention to details, just to the very biggest thing on television at any given moment. They do not seek out facts, just listen for the best sound bites upon which to make decisions.

Moderates are characterized by 3 factors: 1. They vote based on singular issues that affect them the most personally, without concern for the country at large. 2. Second in line to their concern for themselves, they vote on the basis of national crisis such as war, because it always affects them in some way. 3. They vote based on the characteristics (not to be confused with character) of the candidates, i.e. how they look, how "inspiring" they are, which one uses the most pleasing catch phrases such as "change" and "yes we can". Pro-Obama Moderates, when interviewed throughout the campaign were consistently unable to answer what Obama had accomplished. And when they were questioned about the "change" they all parroted, they could not identify exactly what change they were talking about.

Worse than these are "moderate Republicans", from both the public and in congress. The Republican party that once stood for patriotism, personal responsibility, rugged individualism, morality, life, and the free market economy that has served America well for over 230 years, is nearly gone. Unless a standard bearer rises up and re-establishes the principles of the party, it will become permanently irrelevant. Moderates currently rule our land and decide our elections. Spineless, fence sitters that are self absorbed, moved by empty words and who gush over bipartisanism, as though "reaching across the aisle" is a good thing for conservatives.

No, the Republican party must return solidly to it's conservative roots and insist that if life is to be tolerable for any politician calling themselves "Republican", they must adhere to the principles of conservatism which when administered correctly produces free markets, prosperity, personal freedom, patriotism, military strength and constitutional adherence. No better system has ever been developed and none will in this world. If Republicans continue to allow the party platform to be watered down to present the picture of a "big tent" and being more moderate, there is no hope for their return. And for that matter, no reason for their return.
